CONCORD, New Hampshire — Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concern in political campaigns. It is already being used across the country to create campaign ads, alter candidate messaging, and generate highly realistic images, video, and audio—often without clear disclosure to voters.


As the technology becomes more accessible and affordable, concerns are growing about how easily it can blur the line between authentic communication and manufactured content.


WHAT IS HAPPENING

Recent reporting shows that AI-generated political ads have already appeared in multiple races nationwide, ranging from local contests to statewide campaigns. These ads have included:

  • Synthetic voice recordings mimicking real candidates
  • Digitally altered videos portraying opponents in exaggerated or false scenarios
  • AI-generated imagery designed to influence perception or emotion


In some cases, these materials have been released without clear labeling, leaving viewers to determine on their own whether what they are seeing or hearing is real.

  • Campaigns will choose transparency over ambiguity

OUTDATED DEVICES TARGETED IN ACTIVE HACKING CAMPAIGNS

UNITED STATES — Apple is urging iPhone users to update their devices after cybersecurity researchers identified active hacking campaigns targeting phones running outdated software.


According to newly released findings, multiple threat actors—including state-linked groups and cybercriminal networks—have been exploiting vulnerabilities in older versions of Apple’s operating system to gain deep access to personal devices. Researchers have specifically linked some of these campaigns to actors associated with Russian intelligence as well as Chinese cybercriminal operations.


WHAT WE KNOW

Researchers identified at least two sophisticated exploit tools capable of infiltrating iPhones that have not installed recent updates. These tools have been identified by researchers as “DarkSword” and “Coruna,” and have been analyzed by multiple cybersecurity firms including Google, iVerify, and Lookout.


These tools allow attackers to access highly sensitive data, including:

  • Text messages and call history
  • Location tracking and browser history

  • Personal files such as notes, calendars, and health data

Security experts note that these attacks are difficult for users to detect and operate silently once a device is compromised. Researchers have emphasized that, in many cases, users would have no visible indication their device has been accessed.

While the identified campaigns have primarily targeted specific international groups, cybersecurity analysts emphasize that the underlying vulnerabilities are not geographically limited. Security experts recommend the following:
